Fun, challenging and inclusive Scouting on the water for boys and girls aged 8–15 — right here on the Swan River.
We’re a volunteer-run Sea Scout group based on the Swan River at Mosman Park and Peppermint Grove. We welcome boys and girls aged 8 to 15 from across Perth’s western suburbs and beyond. Through the Scout Method, young people learn by doing — outdoors, on the river and alongside their friends.
Sailing, paddling and — as they grow — power boat driving. Skills built on technique, not strength.
Through the Scout Patrol System, young people take on responsibility, set their own goals and help lead the group.
Camps, the river, the bush and local community activities, most Saturdays during the school term.
Boys and girls from age 8 are welcome, from all backgrounds and abilities.
Scouting for ages 8 and upwards. Both sections meet at our boat shed at the end of Johnston Street, Peppermint Grove.
The emphasis is on fun, exciting and challenging activities through Scouting — making friends, trying new things and getting onto the water for the first time.
The emphasis is on developing skills, independence, leadership and confidence, with activities on and off the water.
“Sea Scouts” reflects where we are and what we do: water-based adventure on the Swan River, alongside all the land-based Scouting you'd expect. Members learn sailing and paddling, and as they get older, power boat driving.
Sailing is a brilliant activity for kids — it rewards technique over strength, builds teamwork and leadership, and offers a real sense of freedom and independence once it's mastered. We have a fleet of sail boats and power boats to support it all.

Scout groups are run by volunteers. Lending your time is a great way to give back, learn new skills, get outdoors and meet wonderful people. Everyone has a skill that can contribute — including learning to drive a power boat or sail.
Cub and Scout Leaders mentor and inspire our young people and deliver the youth program. Leaders receive ongoing training and access to free or discounted accreditation in areas like First Aid, Recreation and Business.
Commit to attending meetings and activities regularly to assist with the hands-on side of Scouting, without becoming a Leader. Helpers also access training and play an important part in our group.
Meet regularly to oversee the financial and management side of the group, working with the Group Leader and drawing on your own professional and personal experience.
Every skill is welcome:
We ask that parents of youth members help at a regular session on a simple alphabetical roster, supporting the leaders to deliver each session.
Our Scout hall on Wellington Street, Mosman Park is available for hire and makes a brilliant space for birthday parties — it's also been home to dance and yoga classes, and music and art lessons.

Scouting is about learning by doing. A Scout learns from their peers, gives it a go, and once they've mastered it, teaches a younger Scout. Under the Patrol System the young people run their own structure, elect their leaders, and define their goals.
Our leaders facilitate adventurous activities that help young people identify their strengths, learn about themselves, and build confidence and character that lasts a lifetime.
