The Mosman Bay Sea Scout Group history dates back as early as 1911, when the No.9 Troop formed and held meetings from the home of Mr & Mrs Waterhouse on Irvine Street, near the Esplanade, Peppermint Grove. The years saw many fun adventures on the Swan River and in 1929 a vessel was acquired from the Royal Australian Navy and used as the Troops’ base and moored in Freshwater Bay near the McFarlane boat shed and tearooms. From then on, every Saturday afternoon the troop went rowing and sailing, and by the end of the Second World War, the Troop had built their own premises on land given to them by the Mosman Park Council (located on the hill, behind the Swan Canoe Club). Now known as Sea Scouts, the Group thrived after another move, this time into a facility located on the banks of the Swan River, just next to the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. At one stage the membership grew to such an extent there were two Scout Troops and two Cub Packs.
It was also during this time that the Mosman Park Primary School and the WA School for Deaf Children both established their own Scout groups with the interest of Scouting on the rise. In 1959 the Mosman Park RSL were responsible for the establishment of a purpose-built hall in Mosman Park for the Scouts which flourished alongside their Sea Scout brothers, until the late 80’s where they eventually merged together.
In recent years the Group regained ownership of the old Mosman Park Scout Hall on Wellington Street, with plans to provide more opportunities for the community to be involved in Scouting for many years to come.

Scouting is about learning by doing. A Scout receives instruction from his or her peers, and then gives it a go themselves, and when they've mastered it, they teach it to a younger Scout. At times, leaders play a role in providing instruction or reining in an unruly troop. But when a Scout troop is running as it should, it’s a self-governing thing of beauty. Under the Scout Patrol System, the children operate their own management structure, elect their youth leaders, and define their goals- firstly as individuals, and then manage the needs of the troop to achieve common goals.
Adult Scout Leaders facilitate the desires of their Scouts to experience adventurous activities, and give them a chance to identify their strengths, to learn more about themselves, and ultimately build confidence and their character.
At Mosman Bay Sea Scouts, we are here to give kids the support they need in order to shape them into leaders of the future, and to give them the opportunities to test their skills and see just how far they can go. We proudly carry out programs and leadership initiatives in-line with the Scouting methods that help nurture our youth and help them develop the skills they will carry throughout their lives.
