Start right away! Scouting runs 4 seasons and children are welcome to join during any school term. Start your Scouting journey tomorrow or next week, we'll be ready when you are.
The term Sea Scouts primarily identifies the location of the Scout Group and associated water-based activities available, alongside land based Scouting activities. Members have the opportunity to learn sailing and paddling, and as they get older, power boat driving. Sailing is a great outdoor activity for kids as it requires technique instead of physical strength, teaches teamwork and leadership, and offers freedom and independance once they have mastered it. Our group leader is a qualified sailing instructor and we have a range of sail boats along with the power boats to support our sailing activites.
Mosman Bay Sea Scout Group caters to both boys and girls starting from the age of 8 years.
Our Cubs section is for young people from 8 to 10 years, and our Scout section caters for 11 to 14 year olds. Adults and all members of the community are welcome too!
You are welcome to come along to two 'come and try' sessions before joining.
WHAT ABOUT THE UNIFORM?
The scout uniform consists of a polo or button up shirt for each section and navy blue shorts or pants. Youth members are required to wear the uniform shirt and scarf to sessions each week, but the pants or shorts are only required for formal activites such as Anzac day parades.
All uniform items are available online from the Scoutshop Australia . We keep a stock of the uniform shirt as well as scout hats for members to purchase, and supply our group's unique scarf upon a childs official investiture into our group. Pants or shorts can be purchased from any store. We also supply badges to be sewn onto the uniform. Click here for the badge placement chart.
Fees are paid in two parts – both are required to have a membership.
1. The Mosman Bay Sea Scouts Group Fee covers insurance and outgoings for the hall and vessels, equipment, badges, scarves and activity materials. This is charged at the beginning of the year, but can be paid quarterly if required. For Cub Scouts, our fee is $300 per year, or $75 per term. For Scouts it is $400 per year or $100 per term. We offer a discount for siblings and for kids whose parents are willing to become a leader.
2. The Scouts WA Annual Membership Fee, which covers personal and public liability insurance, and contributes towards training, facilities and providing resources to all members. This fee is paid annually on the date of registration with Scouts WA. Currently these fees are $218 per year and $174 per year for a sibling.
